2008 SUMMER SCHOOL DRIVERS EDUCATION FOR THE MARTIN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT
DRIVERS ED COURSE WILL BE OFFERED 1 TIME during the summer.
(1 section at Murray Middle in Cafetorium and 1 section at Indiantown Middle in the Art Room, room 7 Building A.)

THIS IS A NON-CREDIT COURSE.

Student must be 15 years of age before June 17th and have a learners permit.

On road lessons will be conducted on June 18, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 30th. Students will choose (1) of the abovementioned days to complete the driving along with parking lot skills and maneuvers on June 17th. There will be no less than 2 students and no more than 3 students in the car each time. The on road lessons will be from 8:00am until 12:45pm with a small lunch on the run. Attendance is MANDATORY for on road lessons.

Classroom hours will be held on June 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, and 17th, with attendance at the classroom portions of the program MANDATORY. The classrooms will start at 8:00am and end at 12:45pm with a small lunch at 10:15.

Failure to complete all sections of the program will result in no certificate being issued.

1.) Classroom and on road hours for issuance of an insurance discount certificate (No high school credit is earned towards graduation requirements.)

1. Drivers Education is taken for NO school credit and NO grades received will remain on transcripts. Only FULL completion of this class will enable students to receive a money saving insurance discount certificate. Full completion would mean any missed test, classroom days, up to (1) made up completely with written work given by instructor.

2. Class will start exactly at __8__ am during the regular summer school day. Parents can pick up kids at __12:45___ pm on classroom days. Driving days will be set up later in the course. Driving day will be (1) day from 8:00am till 12:45pm rain or shine.

3. Being tardy to class will result in possible failing grade and discipline issues, just like any other class that is taken for credit in school. BEING TARDY (2) TIMES and or MISSING (1) classes will be an AUTOMATIC REMOVAL FROM CLASS…ONCE ENROLLED STUDENTS CAN NOT TAKE CLASS AGAIN IN ANY HIGH SCHOOL IN THE MARTIN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT.

4. All rules which are followed during the regular day shall and will be observed during Drivers Education classes. See your student handbook.

5. STUDENTS SHOULD ARRANGE TO BE PICKED UP at 12:45 pm or use the Martin County Summer School bus schedule.

6. DO NOT SCHEDULE DOCTORS, DENTIST, and appointments (etc.) on classroom or on your driving day. NO ONE WILL BE ALLLOWED TO ROAM OR WALK THE CAMPUS AFTER CLASS IS OVER EACH DAY.

7. Any class that is missed must be made up. More than (1) DAYS MISSED WILL NOT ALLOW STUDENTS AN INSURANCE CERTIFICATE FROM A.T.C.D.S.I. and student will be removed from the class.

8. Make up work will include the Chapter Test missed plus any work that the instructor feels appropriate to solidify the material missed, usually at least 8 pages front & back minimum of hand written work per 2 hours and 15 minutes missed. No Insurance discount certificate will be issued by A Treasure Coast Driving School if days are missed and not made up with appropriate make up work.

9. All students will have instructor announce daily a schedule for behind the wheel training once final class rosters have been determined. This schedule once completed will be for the entire summer. (You will know exactly when your driving day is, so you and your group can plan accordingly.) Sheets are usually sent home indicating drive dates & times.

10. FAILURE TO SHOW UP FOR A BEHIND WHEEL APPOINTMENT WILL RESULT IN NO INSURANCE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE GIVEN. THESE TIMES ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE UP AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL TO OBTAIN YOUR CERTIFICATE @ $40.00 per 1 hour session.

11.No one can be dropped off at work or at home, students will always be returned to school where they started. PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PICK UP AND WELL BEING AFTER THE DRIVING SLOT IS FINISHED. The summer school bus can be used on the students driving day. The instructor will not wait for parents to arrive.

12. You must have your learners permit to sign up on the driving sheet. Students who already have a license or have had their learners permit the longest shall be first to choose their groups driving slots..

13. Students who don’t have learners permits must pay ($40) for a 4 hour drug and alcohol class which is offered through A.T.C.D.S.I. (off school sites.)

14. Your learners permit will also cost you $20 you pay that to the Drivers License office on the day you take your Learners Permit Test. It’s a good idea to get an appointment now. PSL DHSMV phone is 398-2892 call for new office times, it was moved due to construction. Hobe Sound DHSMV office 546-7097 is open Monday-Friday from the hours of 8:30am – 4:30pm.

15. It is strongly suggested that you call the Drivers License office and get your appointment for your Learners Permit, if you don’t already have it. They may be booked a month or two in advance. DO IT NOW! HOBE SOUND 546-7097 PSL 398-2892

16. Any questions ask your instructor and if they can’t answer them they will have an answer tomorrow.

17. All students will be required to keep a binder in class for materials covered and verification of missed assignments. The binder will be kept in the Drivers Education classroom and will be used each day by the students. This binder will need to be purchased by the student.

My parents have read the rules #1-17 and understand the rules and procedures listed for getting no school credit, only an insurance discount certificate.

We understand that missing (1) day of classroom will result in removal from class, and any on road slots missed CAN ONLY be made up by purchasing them privately for $40.00 per 1 hour slot. Once removed from a class the student CAN NOT sign up again for a program offered through the Martin County School District.
